North Dakota
Curriculum Initiative

The North Dakota Curriculum Initiative (NDCI) is a long-term professional development program for North Dakota public and non-public school curriculum administrators and teachers. Funded by the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction and located on the campus of North Dakota State University, Fargo, this collaborative professional development project is in its seventh year and has committed educators from across the state involved in the programs.
The purpose of the NDCI is to
1. help assure that all North Dakota students receive equitable educational classroom opportunities,
2. assist students in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and shared values essential to our civic culture, and
3. support students in attaining critical work and management skills essential to be productive and responsible citizens.
These purposes are sought through the creation and implementation of solid standards-based curricula in all North Dakota classrooms.


North Dakota
LEAD Center

The North Dakota LEAD Center is a non-profit education organization devoted to making a positive difference for the children of North Dakota by helping to develop excellent leaders for their schools. The LEAD Center provides professional development programs and services to public and nonpublic school leaders and individuals preparing to become educational leaders. LEAD's energies are focused in three areas:
1. professional development programs that enhance the quality and effectiveness of practicing school administrators,
2. support services and technical assistance to schools including a resource library,
3. and collaborating with universities in an early career and future leader development program to identify and develop beginning school leaders.


North Dakota
Department of
Public Instruction
The mission of the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction is to ensure a uniform, statewide system for effective learning as illustrated through its goals:
1. Align all elements of public education to help students achieve academic success.
2. Promote health and wellness initiatives that provide a safe and nurturing environment that encourages community
involvement and embraces diversity.
3. Ensure a comprehensive system of accountability for results-based decision making.
4. Build capacity to ensure a uniform educational system that meets or exceeds established standards.
Bismarck Public
School District
The Bismarck Public School District has been in the education business for over 125 years (since 1873). It is the largest school district in the state, with 10,650 students in 2006-07 and about 1,600 staff members. Bismarck Public Schools serves as the fiscal agent for the North Dakota Collegial Learning Program.
